Ice House, 1890
This dates back to at least 1890 (when the Jays still owned the property), but many of the stone walls surrounding it date back to 1822 or earlier. This is where the occupants would store their ice throughout the year, as it was constructed before the arrival -- or invention -- of any refrigerators. Insulation from straw or sawdust protected the ice against melting. There is an ongoing restoration project there, with 80% of the original components being kept.
